Negotiating with a toddler
Whenever we are outdoors, it’s a challenge to get Noddy walk or climb the stairs. He always cries out to his dad or me to be carried. “Gooooddiiieeee” (गोदी) seems to be his favourite word and the cuteness with which he asks , its so tough to say no💓.
Sometimes, we do say no and what follows is a high voltage drama which includes howling and lying flat on the floor kind of a scene🙄. #keepingitreal
Here’s what my game plan is when this happens
☑️ Ignore the tantrum
☑️Try to play with him , like in the picture. He loves to climb up like this
☑️Distract him to something more interesting
☑️Play catch and run
Needless to say, all of this works 5 times of out of 10. The rest of the times, well you know toddler is the boss😑
One thing that I have definitely learnt is that saying “no” doesn’t work. Negotiation is the key in dealing with a toddler and we are still learning the ropes!!
How do you handle a similar situation? I would love to know!
