5 best ways to soothe a baby who has colic

In his first year of life, my son used to get colic quite frequently. If you have seen a colic child, you would know that it’s an extremely uncomfortable situation for the child where he cries inconsolably. It took me a lot of time to understand his problem and find out remedies to prevent and treat a colic baby.
.
The common causes of colic in babies include gastroesophageal reflux ( food going back from stomach to food pipe), immature digestive system, intolerance or allergy to any food, ingesting gas while feeding, imbalance of healthy bacteria and mother’s lifestyle and habits like smoking during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
.
The most important sign of a colic baby is a stiff lower abdomen. This is because of the gases that get trapped and create severe pain for the baby. This can be detected by gently pressing on the lower abdominal area, around and below the navel. If you feel stiffness, the baby is probably colic. Also, if your baby is crying uncontrollably since three to four hours, it’s probably colic.
.
I generally took the following steps when my child used to have this problem.
.
1) perform some gentle knee exercises which help in relieving the trapped gases . You can watch the videos of the same here.
These exercises were effective 8 times out of 10 and my baby used to pass the gas within a few minutes, giving him relief.
.
2) apply a paste of warm water with hing ( asafoetida) powder in it. The paste has to be applied all around the belly button.
.
3) if nothing else worked, I used to give him over the counter medicines like colic aid. Having said that, it’s important that we don’t give such medicines regularly, as the child becomes habitual to it.
.
4) To prevent him from getting colic, I used to make sure the he used to burp after every feed. I also used to apply warm hing water around his navel area everyday after bath.

.
5) Warm bath and warm oil massage with circular motions on the belly is also helpful.
.
It is always better to go for Ayurvedic formulations in colic cases. Mother Sparsh has introduced a navel Tummy Roll-on with 100 percent Ayurvedic ingredients like saunf oil, hing oil, pudina oil, sonth oil, sova oil. We all have heard and read about how saunf, hing and pudina are good for the health of our digestive systems. Hing Oil has antiseptic and antibacterial properties which help to reduce acid reflux and constipation. The presence of fennel oil in this roll on has anti-colic properties which helps to reduce stomach bloating, gas and also helps the baby to burp.

I am so happy that a brand came forward with a product like this, which just needs to be applied topically in comparison to gripe water, syrups etc which needed to be ingested by the baby, and have potential side effects.

To be applied directly on the skin in the navel area, the roll on is skin friendly as it does not contain alcohol or chemicals. Apart from helping in colic pain, It also helps to relieve stomach ache from indigestion and constipation. It can be applied two to three times a day and is free from any side effects.

So if you are looking for a natural, chemical free and safe solution for your baby’s stomach problems, you know where to go.
Priced at RS 249 you can buy it here. (There’s a discount at this link as well!) Mother Sparsh Tummy Roll On is travel friendly as it is convenient to carry while travelling in bags, purses, pockets, etc.
